Dorchester's South Street to partially reopen next week
Contractors say it should be ready by next Friday (11th April)
Four months after a devastating fire at Dorchester's Gorge Café, South Street is due to partially reopen to the public next week.
Dorset Council say their contractors are hoping to adjust the hoardings there on Friday 11th April).
That'll allow access to Scrivens, through to Hardye Arcade and a walkway past Specsavers and Amplifon so people can go from one side of the road to the other.
The huge blaze back in December completely destroyed the former café, with debris strewn across the road, and the building structure deemed unsafe for the public to go near.
Contractors Jordan & Faber have been clearing dangerous masonry panels, removing fire-damaged materials and putting up scaffolding since getting on site at the end of January.
In a statement, they've said:
"The companies carrying out related works outside of our direct control are aware of the plans to reopen the street, and they are targeting reinstatement before 11th April. We are in contact with them and will continue to liaise to ensure this happens."
