The council says it will shift focus to school zones after the results of a consultation

Dorchester Town Council has decided against implementing a blanket 20mph speed limit throughout the town after consulting over 3,800 residents.

A significant 63% of those who responded were opposed to the idea, prompting the council’s Planning and Environment Committee to vote unanimously to abandon the proposal.

Instead, councillor Sue Biles, chair of the council's Task and Finish Group, announced plans to conduct a feasibility study for introducing 20mph zones specifically around schools and areas of pedestrian safety concern.

Cllr Biles said: “We would like to thank everyone who took part in the consultation. Your feedback has helped us understand the concerns and priorities of our community.

"We now want to explore a more focused approach to improving road safety, particularly around our schools.”
