Police investigating reported assault involving screwdriver in Dorchester

A 45-year-old man has been arrested

Police are on the lookout for witnesses following a reported assault in a car park in Dorchester.

The alleged incident took place between 10am and 11am yesterday (Monday 16th February 2026) on Bridport Road, near the junction with Hawthorne Road.

A local man in his 30s was reportedly attacked by a man wielding a screwdriver.

He was taken to hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

Police have arrested a 45-year-old man from Dorchester on suspicion of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.

He remains in custody as the investigation continues.

Detective Sergeant Ben Turner from Dorset Police urged witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were present at the time and intervened.

He also called for anyone who might have footage or additional information to assist with the investigation.
