Approved plans to expand AFC Bournemouth’s stadium in Kings Park will deliver “not just for the club but the wider community”.

On May 22, a proposal to expand Vitality Stadium were unanimously approved by an eastern planning committee.

Following the approval, Councillor Millie Earl, leader of BCP Council, said in a statement: “What a week for AFC Bournemouth. The club’s progress on the pitch has now been matched by this significant milestone off it, following BCP Council’s Planning Committee’s approval for the redevelopment of the Vitality Stadium.

“AFC Bournemouth’s success is a source of pride for many in our area and supporting this redevelopment ensures the club’s investment is kept at the heart of town, with significant benefits for our community.

“The redevelopment of the stadium will create jobs for local people, enhance our national profile, attract visitors, give more fans a chance to secure tickets and will increase local spending in the town; with accommodation occupancy, footfall and hospitality spend all expected to grow.

“This work has helped shape a scheme that delivers not just for the club, but for the wider community, and ensures that the benefits are felt far beyond matchdays.”

During the planning process objections have been raised to the proposed redevelopment highlighting residents concerns about parking, the size of the development and the impact on the surrounding area.

Cllr Earl acknowledged these concerns; in her statement she said: “We know some residents have raised concerns with the potential negative impact this project may have. Council teams have worked proactively and constructively with AFC Bournemouth to make sure these are heard, and to secure improvements for the local area; including upgrades to bus stops and crossings, new public art, investment into Clarence Park Road play park, additional benches and clearer signage.”

Cllr Earl added that “It is a timely moment to recognise and thank Andoni Iraola” who is leaving the club after three years when his contract expires at the end of the season.

Cllr Earl said that his contribution is “leaving behind a legacy that will inspire fans and supporters for years to come”.
