Cornhill road in Sherborne has reopened after emergency closures were implemented due to a fire at the derelict school, Newell House.

Following the incident, Dorset Council coordinated putting up scaffolding and hoarding to ensure public safety in the affected area.

Parts of Newell House adjacent to the highway were deemed hazardous and have since been secured or removed.

These measures enabled Dorset Council to lift the road closure and resume normal traffic flow.

A Dorset Council spokesperson expressed gratitude to residents, businesses, and commuters for their understanding during the safety works.

The cooperation of the community ensured the successful completion of these essential safety measures.
