Colehill First School extension
Plans have been revealed
A NEW roof and extension have been agreed for Colehill First School off Pilford Heath Road.
The proposal was widely welcomed at a Dorset Council eastern area planning meeting.
Councillors were told that the proposal will see the demolition of a timber gazebo structure located on the southern side of the building and replace it with a single-storey extension.
The 3.3metre extension will have a pent tiled (single pitch) roof to achieve an enlarged covered outdoor area and a new enclosed toilet block with shiplap cladding and anthracite roof tiles, similar to the existing.
The application attracted no public comments but had to come before the committee because it is on Dorset Council owned land.
Ward councillor Andy Todd (Lib Dem) told the committee the changes would be great benefit to thr school. He said it was a ‘modest and sensible’ addition which would support outdoor learning.
“The benefits clearly outweigh the very limited loss of a small area of hard-surface outdoor space,” he said.
Cllr David Morgan (Lib Dem Wimborne) said he taught at the school 50 years ago when they had seven huts in a field, before moving to the existing site.
“I am sure everyone will welcome these changes,” he said, proposing accepting the plans."
