A teenager from Syria's been found guilty of raping a young woman in a portable toilet on Bournemouth seafront.

19-year-old Mohammed Abdullah had offered to give her a ride home on his e-bike before seriously assaulting her in the early hours of July 6th 2025.

He was convicted today (15th May) following a trial at Bournemouth Crown Court of rape and assault by penetration.

Abdullah, who arrived in the UK from Syria in 2023 and was given permanent leave to remain under a family reunion scheme, was assisted during the hearing by an Arabic interpreter.

He has been remanded into custody and will be sentenced on July 3.

Judge Robert Pawson warned the defendant he faces a jail term and ordered a probation report to be prepared.

He told Abdullah: “On the 5th to 6th July, having come down from London with a group of other young men, by unfortunate circumstances your path crossed (with the complainant).

“She had had far too much to drink, it was late at night, she was at the beachfront at Bournemouth and, on a whim, you decided to take advantage of that.

“You deliberately took her further up the beach to the Portaloos which, in my judgment on the evidence, you knew were there and knew they were open.

“You locked her in a Portaloo and you raped her.

“The sentence is to be decided on the 3rd July but it will inevitably involve immediate custody.”

During the trial, the court heard the complainant had been out with a friend that night, first in Charminster then Bar So in Bournemouth, Dorset.

Prosecutors said she'd had a “fair amount of drink” and was asked to leave the bar, which she did, before she and her friend headed off in different directions.

She then had problems organising a taxi home because her phone battery had run out, and she started walking along the seafront towards Boscombe Pier.

It was here she came across Abdullah and who was with friends who she asked for help getting directions on their phones.

One of the men told her the defendant would give her a lift home on his e-bike and she took him up on the offer.

The defendant, who was 18 at the time, then rode with her towards a set of portable toilets.

Abdullah then sexually assaulted the complainant before taking her inside one of the portable toilets where he locked the door before raping her, the court heard.

Afterwards she sought help from passers-by, asking to use their phones to call her mother, who she told she had been raped, before she called the police.

The complainant later told police: “I remember being pinned by my back to the Portaloo, I remember my leg being lifted up, his hand then went up my skirt.

“I thought if I let if happen it would be quicker so I tried to fight a little but I just thought I will let him.

“I remember being dragged into the portable loo at this point, the door being shut and locked, I remember being forced over.”

She added: “The next thing I knew he was gone. I exited the toilet, I took my shoes off so I could run. I saw him riding back to his friends.”

Mr Eldridge said that the defendant, from West Drayton, Middlesex, was arrested and told police in interview that the complainant had consented to both the sexual contact and to sex.
