A Bournemouth man has been sentenced to 11 years and 9 months in prison following a violent knife attack in Boscombe Gardens.
James Junior Cunningham, aged 19, was sentenced at Winchester Crown Court on 25th August 2026 after admitting to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a bladed article.
The attack occurred on 19th December 2025 when Cunningham used a knife to stab another man, aged in his 20s, three times in the face and head.
The victim was hospitalised with injuries, which were not life-threatening or life-changing, prompting a detailed investigation by Dorset Police.
Detective Constable Jack Gibson of Dorset Police underscored the seriousness with which knife crime is treated, despite its low rates locally.
Detective Gibson said, “This was a nasty assault which could have had an even more tragic outcome. Fast-time enquiries by detectives identified Cunningham as the attacker, and the investigation that ensued allowed us to bring him before court to face justice for his actions.”
He added, “There is no excuse for carrying a knife and we will relentlessly pursue those who choose to carry them and commit offences.”
