A heath fire in Bournemouth was 'deliberate' according to the emergency services

The blaze in Turbary Park Avenue yesterday affected a large grassland area and is thought to have been deliberate, and Dorset Police are now investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for Dorset Fire and Rescue said:

"We were called at 7.27pm yesterday (2 July) to Turbary Park Avenue, Bournemouth to reports of a fire on the heath. Crews from Redhill Park, Springbourne, Poole (x2), Ferndown, Christchurch, a support unit from Hamworthy along with a water carrier from Ringwood (Hampshire & Isle of Wight FRS) and the unimog from Wareham attended.

"On arrival, they found a fire affecting an area of approximately 150 by 50 metres. Firefighters used multiple hose reel jets, main lines and beaters to extinguish. Our stop came in at 8.49pm and crews remained on scene to dampen down.

"The cause is believed to be deliberate, and the investigation is now with Dorset Police.

"The road was closed temporarily while the incident took place."
