Fireworks display at Bournemouth beach cancelled due to bad weather
Next week's display is now set to be bigger as a form of replacement
Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council (BCP) has confirmed that a fireworks display due to be held on Bournemouth beach will not be taking place.
The display was due to take place on Friday (August 28th) as part of its summer season profile, but due to adverse weather conditions, BCP confirmed the show had been cancelled.
Because of the high winds, the barge on which the fireworks would be released from is not suitable to take to the sea.
BCP Council said that to make up for the lost fireworks display, a second display will also be put on next Friday (September 4), saying it will be "a larger finale" to the summer season.
In a statement, councillor Richard Herrett from BCP Council said: "Tonight’s Bournemouth fireworks display is regrettably cancelled due to high winds at sea meaning the fireworks simply cannot be safely launched from the barge.
“We have done everything we can, alongside our partners, to ensure today’s display could take place but unfortunately it has not been possible.
“We know this is frustrating for many of our residents, visitors and businesses: it is frustrating for us, too, we know a lot of people were looking forward to their return.
“We will be hosting an additional display at Poole Quay (3 September) and, as a result of tonight’s cancellation, there will be a large finale at Bournemouth beach next Friday (4 September).”
