Man jailed for assaulting 89-year-old woman in wheelchair in Poole
Police say the attack was "completely unprovoked"

A man has been jailed after an elderly woman in a wheelchair was assaulted outside a restaurant in Poole.
The incident happened at around 8.45pm on 19th September 2025 in Haven Road when the victim, who had recently had a hip operation, was pushed to the ground and attacked by a man carrying a large wooden bat.
Miroslaw Kochaniec, 46, from Bournemouth was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on Tuesday 5 May 2025 to two years and six months in prison.
Dorset Police have thanked members of the public who came to the victim’s aid and helpped detain Kochaniec before officers arrived.
Kochaniec, was arrested at the scene and subsequently charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm.
Police say the victim, who was 89 at the time, sustained injuries to her face and head as well as fingers and knee and was taken to hospital where it was found she had sustained a bleed to her brain.
Detective Constable Charlotte Bailey, of BCP CID, said: “This was a completely unprovoked assault on a vulnerable elderly woman that has had a lasting physical and emotional impact on the victim.
“I want to thank members of the public who came to her aid following the incident and also assisted in detaining the offender, which ensured he was promptly arrested and could be held accountable for his actions.”
