Half of lifts in Poole's Dolphin Centre not working
Visitors to the Dolphin Centre have faced months of disruption
Half the lifts in a multi-storey car park at a shopping centre in Poole are still out of action.
Visitors to the Dolphin Centre have faced months of disruption since all six lifts at the Dolphin Centre multi-storey car park first went out of service in April.
The Dolphin Centre has been repeatedly calling for BCP to take action to fix the on going issues with the lifts at the shopping centre.
BCP Council, which is responsible for the car park lifts, confirmed that three of the six lifts are now operational.
Matti Raudsepp, director of customer and property at BCP Council, said: “We are aware of issues with the lifts at the Dolphin Centre and its multi-storey car park and continue to carry out regular inspections and maintenance.
“Three lifts are currently in service at the site: two in the multi-storey car park, and one in the shoppers’ car park.
“A third lift in the multi-storey car park has been repaired but requires a final insurance inspection before it can be brought back into use.
“This is anticipated to take place on June 30.”
Of the remaining lifts, Mr Raudsepp said: “Three other lifts – two in the shoppers’ car park and one in the multi-storey car park – need to be replaced.”
However, BCP Council has reassured users that alternative step-free routes are available during the ongoing repairs.
Mr Raudsepp said: “As long-term solutions are considered, it’s important to reiterate that lifts are not the only step-free access into the Dolphin Centre from the car park.
“Visitors can park on the ground floor (floor B), which has 40 disabled spaces and provides direct access to the shops without the need for lifts or steps.”
BCP council has said that alternative parking options are also available to visitors.
Mr Raudsepp said: “Alternative options include Seldown car park and the swimming pool car park, both of which offer step-free routes to the centre.
“Visitors can also use Morebus services to Poole Bus Station, which is directly connected to the Dolphin Centre.”
The status of these working lifts is subject to change at all times.
