Electric motorbike rider jailed after injuring 7-year-old boy in Christchurch collision
Callean Sebastien Wyburn, from Bournemouth, previously admitted offences including causing serious injury by dangerous driving
An 18-year-old has been jailed after causing serious injury to a young boy in a collision involving an illegal electric motorbike in Christchurch.
Callean Sebastien Wyburn, from Bournemouth, drove an unregistered Talaria electric motorcycle through a red light at a pedestrian crossing, hitting the seven-year-old boy on Fairmile Road at around 7.30pm on Tuesday, 10th June 2025.
The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to serious facial and dental injuries.
Police say Wyburn stopped at the scene for a couple of minutes, before riding off along the pavement.
The following day, Wyburn attended Bournemouth police station and identified himself as the rider.
He later pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving without a license and driving without insurance.
At Bournemouth Crown Court today (2 October) Wyburn was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Police Constable Clare Gillard, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “The young victim has very sadly been left with a permanent scar on his face as a result of this collision. He also continues to require dental treatment due to permanent damage caused.
“Wyburn was riding very dangerously on an unregistered e-motorbike, ignored a red light and struck the young boy who was crossing the road when it should have been safe to do so.
“We will robustly deal with anyone found to be using an illegal e-bike on our roads and we hope this sentence serves as a warning to anyone who is thinking of riding dangerously.
“If you are caught riding one of these vehicles illegally, it will be seized, crushed and recycled. Their unlawful use in public areas puts pedestrians and other road users at risk.”
