A 48-hour police dispersal order has come into force in Derby city centre.
The Section 34 notice began at 1.40pm yesterday and will last until 1.40pm on Sunday.
Derbyshire Constabulary says the measure has been taken following an increase in calls about anti-social behaviour in the city centre.
The order gives officers the power to ask a group of two or more people to leave the dispersal area if they are committing anti-social behaviour, or if police believe they may, or are likely to, cause a nuisance to someone else.
Anyone committing an offence who refuses to obey the order can be arrested and fined up to £2,500 and/or receive a three-month prison sentence.
Inspector Dan Gahagan from Derbyshire Constabulary said: “Careful consideration is always given before we decide to introduce dispersal orders and we only do this when it is absolutely necessary.
“The order will assist officers in dealing with those people who cause disruption to our daily life in Derby.”
