Large fire at church in Kilburn

Neighbouring properties have been evacuated as fire crews tackle the blaze

A large fire is currently being managed by emergency services at a church located on Chapel Street in Kilburn, Belper.

The Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at the two-storey building at 00.24 hours after receiving a 999 call.

Six fire engines, an aerial ladder platform, and a command support vehicle have been deployed to the scene.

Firefighters are using main line jets to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading further.

As a precaution, Derbyshire Constabulary is evacuating neighbouring properties while the emergency services deal with the fire.

Chapel Street in Kilburn is currently closed, and residents are advised to avoid the area and find alternative routes.

If you see or smell smoke in the vicinity, it is recommended to keep windows and doors closed.

Houses have been evacuated, and authorities will inform occupants once it is safe to return.
