Chesterfield FC's co-owner Phil Kirk has passed away at the age of 59.

It was announced in March that he had been diagnosed with cancer.

He and his brother, fellow co-owner Ashley, were instrumental in helping the club gain promotion back to the Football League.

The club, in a statement posted on X, said: "It is with great sadness that we announce that the club's owner, Phil Kirk, has died at the age of 59."

"Our thoughts are with Phil's family and friends."
