A teenager from Ilkeston has been returned to prison after threatening to kill a woman just weeks after being released.

Chelsie Brett, 19, was released in October after serving time for knife offences. She was given strict instructions not to contact the woman with whom she was meeting when she was found with the blade.

However, on 23 November, Brett sent death threats over WhatsApp to her, one of which read: 'Your dead you wait'.

Brett, of Dovedale Circle, Cotmanhay, Ilkeston, was arrested and went on to punch a police officer in the face while in custody.

Officer in the case, PC Jo Bramhall, said: “Brett targeted her victim and went on to offend against her again despite having licence conditions not to contact her.

“She showed no remorse towards the victim, despite admitting what she had done, and blamed the victim for the offences.

“The victim was left scared fearing that Brett might carry out her threats.

"While in custody Brett was quick to resort to violence and assaulted a police officer.

“Although still just a teenager, at 19-years old, Brett has shown the potential to become a dangerous young woman and it is absolutely right that she is returned to prison.”

She was subsequently charged with harassment, assaulting a police officer, and making threats to kill.

Brett admitted the offences and was sentenced to 12 months imprisonment and handed a 5-year restraining order in respect of her victim.
