Woman accused of attempted police murder in Carlisle appears in court
Hannah Smaile is accused of attempting to murder two police officers
A woman accused of attempting to murder two police officers in Carlisle has made her first appearance in front of a crown court judge.
Hannah Smaile, 25, is also charged with unlawfully and intentionally threatened the two officers with a bladed article, a knife, in a private place.
All arise out of an incident at an address on Lister Court, off Shady Grove Road, in the city’s Raffles area.
The force were called to the property at around 9:30am on May 28, when two police constables are reported to have suffered injuries.
Both were discharged from hospital after receiving treatment.
Carlisle Crown Court heard today (25 June) that a female officer sustained a wound to her nose, and a male PC cuts to his finger.
No pleas were entered by Smaile during today’s court hearing, which lasted 10 minutes.
She only spoke to confirm her name and date of birth.
A provisional date for a trial was agreed. This is due to start on March 16 next year and, it is estimated, will last three to four days.
The court heard Smaile’s legal team intent to seek a psychiatric report.
She is next due to appear at the crown court on September 5, when the case will be reviewed by a judge.
In the meantime Smaile, of Lister Court, Carlisle, remains remanded in custody.
