Wigton man jailed for five years for indecent image offences
Breached sex offenders register notification requirements
A man from Wigton has been sentenced to five years in prison for crimes involving indecent images of children and failing to adhere to sex offenders register requirements.
The sentencing occurred at Carlisle Crown Court on Wednesday, 12th August, where Craig Mason, 34, was convicted.
Mason, a resident of Fell View, Wigton, had prior convictions for similar offences between 2018 and 2024, which required him to meet sexual offender notification obligations.
During a visit by Cumbria Police's MOSOVO team, tasked with controlling sexual and violent offenders, Mason falsely claimed he had no mobile phone or social media accounts.
Police discovered a mobile phone in Mason's bedroom, containing social media accounts and indecent images.
Due to these offences, Mason is mandated to register as a sex offender for ten years.
DC Andrew Minnion from the MOSOVO team emphasized the importance of their work in protecting communities by ensuring offenders comply with legal obligations, adopting a zero-tolerance stance on breaches and further offences.
