Whitehaven Civic Hall reopens after safety improvements

Whitehaven's Civic Hall has reopened after temporarily closing for safety improvements.
The venue shut in May so fire safety work could be carried out.
Cumberland Council says the work has now been completed, meaning events can resume as planned.
While the building was closed, asbestos-related work was also carried out.
The council said the decision to close the hall was made to keep staff, tenants and visitors safe.
A council spokesperson said: “We’d like to thank the local community for their patience while these essential works have been carried out, and the building has been closed.
“With the safety improvements now complete, we’d like to encourage Cumberland’s residents to support the venue and the events planned there over the coming weeks and months.”
The Civic Hall is owned by Cumberland Council and leased to the Rosehill Youth Theatre Trust, which runs the venue and its events space, The Solway Hall.
The building's long-term future will be considered as part of plans to develop a masterplan for Whitehaven.
