Westmorland and Furness Council has unveiled a comprehensive strategy for boosting the local economy over the next decade.

The Inclusive and Green Economic Growth Strategy 2026-35 has been developed using extensive research and input from a wide range of stakeholders, including businesses, local councils, and community members.

Scheduled to launch at the UK Real Estate Investment & Infrastructure Forum (UKREiiF) next week, the strategy promotes collaboration between public and private sectors.

Angela Jones, Director of Thriving Places, highlighted the significance of the strategy, especially in light of new opportunities brought about by the establishment of the Cumbria Combined Authority.

She emphasised the strategy's focus on inclusive and sustainable growth, supporting business prosperity, enhancing skill development, and strengthening local infrastructure.

Organised around three thematic pillars—People, Business, and Place—the strategy details plans to increase workforce numbers, boost employment and productivity rates, and achieve carbon neutrality by 2037.

The UKREiiF event in Leeds runs from 19th to 21st May 2026, bringing together delegates to discuss investment and development opportunities in Cumbria.

Key topics include the launch of the new Combined Authority, clean energy leadership, coastal regeneration, and enhancing connectivity beyond the M6.
