Young drivers in Westmorland and Furness offered £150 for enhanced Pass Plus course
Subsidy aims to improve skills and safety among newly-qualified drivers
Young drivers in Westmorland and Furness have the opportunity to enhance their skills and confidence with an extra incentive from the council.
An enhanced Pass Plus scheme is now providing a £150 subsidy toward the cost of this practical training course.
The course, which follows passing the standard driving test, involves at least six hours of training by an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) and covers rural roads, night driving, adverse weather, and high-speed routes.
According to Councillor Peter Thornton, Cabinet Member for Highways and ICT, young drivers are overrepresented in road collisions during their first years on the road.
To combat this, Westmorland and Furness Council is supporting eligible young drivers through this scheme as part of their wider road safety initiative.
Young drivers aged between 17 and 24 who have passed their test within the past year and reside in the area may qualify for the subsidy.
This initiative aims not only to make roads safer but also to build confidence and decision-making skills among young drivers in challenging conditions.
Pass Plus offers learners the ability to improve their hazard awareness and establishes safer driving habits, though it does not conclude with a test.
Young drivers interested in boosting their driving skills are encouraged to learn more about Pass Plus.
