Cumbria could be a step closer to getting its own mayor
Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council back the plans

Cumbria could be a step closer to getting a mayor - which would bring greater devolved powers to the county.
Westmorland and Furness Council and Cumberland Council both support the plans, which supporters say would put Cumbria on a more level playing field with the rest of the North.
Westmorland and Furness Council leader Jonathan Brook said: "Historically, I think we have seen an underinvestment, and that manifested itself in a number of areas.
"Particularly transport is an issue for us."
Brook said: "The mayor would have a seat at regional and national bodies.
"And if we have a seat at that table, then we have a voice and hopefully we will receive additional funding."
The potential establishment of a Mayoral Combined Authority (MCA) for Cumbria would bring new devolved powers, including in the areas of housing, health and transport.
It could also open up a multi-million pound investment fund for the county.
The final decision is set to be made on October 14th.
This means Cumbria could elect a new mayor as early as May 2027.
