The Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team in Cumbria conducted a rescue operation after a hiker was reported to have fallen and sustained an ankle injury near Pillar/Wind Gap.

Cumbria Police alerted the rescue team via the iPhone Emergency SOS system yesterday (10 May), which provided precise information and coordinates for the injured individual, located below Wind Gap at Pillar.

Twenty team members were deployed to the remote area, prompting the Team Leader to seek assistance from the Coastguard.

Rescue 199 from Prestwick attended the scene, successfully winching the casualty for onward transport.

The injured hiker's partner was escorted off the hill by team members back to her vehicle.

She was congratulated for completing all 214 Wainwrights on Pillar.

The Wasdale MRT expressed gratitude to the Maritime and Coastguard Agency for their invaluable support during the operation.
