Walkers stuck on Scafell Pike guided to safety in thick fog
Cumbria sees three mountain rescues in a day
Three walkers found themselves lost and stuck near the summit of Scafell Pike in thick fog, marking the third mountain rescue incident in Cumbria on the same day.
Cumbria Police reached out to the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team after the males reported their predicament.
Efforts to establish communication initially proved difficult but were eventually successful.
The group was aided by another walker who guided them safely off the hill, negating the need for rescue team deployment.
Earlier, the rescue team had been alerted by Cumbria Police when three walkers encountered difficulties near Calf Cove due to poor weather conditions.
A member of the public, along with their partner, assisted the stranded walkers by providing spare clothing and guiding them towards Esk Hause.
The Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team then took over to help them descend safely.
In another instance, two female walkers separated from their group on Scafell Pike during poor visibility.
Although initial communication attempts were unsuccessful, both walkers later managed to make contact and were helped by other walkers to descend safely.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team reminds everyone of the unpredictable weather in the Lake District:
"Last week we had heat exhaustion in hot, dry conditions. This week we’re treating hypothermia in cold rain and strong winds. The Lakes can switch seasons in a matter of hours - even in June - and it catches people out every year," they said.
