Two people injured and horse dies after collision at Cartmel Racecourse
After a collision during a race a horse has died, with two spectators needing hospital treatment.
It happened at Cartmel Racecourse, in Cumbria on Bank holiday Monday.
A statement released by the course said:
"Cartmel Racecourse can confirm that during the third race of our Bank Holiday meeting, the horse Wbee suffered a sudden heart-related condition immediately prior to the second-last hurdle and collapsed whilst racing. This veterinary event, confirmed by the treating veterinary team, caused the horse to deviate from the course, where it came into contact with a group of spectators.
On-site medical teams responded immediately and two people were taken to hospital for further treatment. Course officials remain in regular contact with the relevant authorities regarding their condition, while ensuring their privacy.
The attending senior racecourse vet was in attendance in a matter of seconds but sadly the horse Wbee passed away as he arrived."
