Tour de France Grand Départ Trophy set to visit Cockermouth in 2026

Residents and visitors in Cockermouth will have the chance to see the Tour de France Grand Départ Trophy up close during the 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women.

The trophy will be displayed in the event’s fan zone, located near the start and finish line in Cockermouth town centre on Wednesday 19th August.

This display offers visitors an exciting opportunity to learn more about the Tour de France ahead of its Grand Départ in Cumberland set for July 2027.

The trophy will be making its second appearance in the Cumberland area, following its recent showcase at the Taste Cumbria event in Maryport on 9th August.

Excitement is building for the landmark Tour de France event, with a Stage One finish in Carlisle and a Stage Two start in Keswick confirmed for 2027.

The race's opening stage will commence in Edinburgh, concluding in Carlisle on Friday 2nd July, and the following day riders will embark on Stage Two from Keswick.

They will travel through scenic locations like the Lake District and Lancashire before reaching Liverpool.

Cumberland’s debut as host for the 2026 Lloyds Tour of Britain Women adds to the excitement.

Cockermouth will host the longest stage of the women's race, which covers a challenging 158.9-kilometre route with 1,913 metres of ascent.

The route will take riders through towns including Frizington, Whitehaven, Lowca, Workington, and several others before returning to Cockermouth town centre.

Cumberland Council’s Director of Place and Economy, Darren Crossley, remarked,

With the Lloyds Tour of Britain Women also taking place on the same day, it's a chance to celebrate two major cycling events and continue building excitement for the Tour de France. We would encourage residents and visitors to come along, enjoy the atmosphere and be part of the countdown to welcoming the world to Cumberland in 2027."

Organisers are already preparing for the Tour de France Grand Départ by recruiting thousands of volunteers.

Applications are currently open for JOY Maker volunteer roles with opportunities across all six stages of the event.

Those interested in participating have until Tuesday 1st September 2026 to register.
