A teenager from Todhills, near Carlisle, has been sentenced to prison after admitting dangerous driving while disqualified.

Tyrus McAllister, 19, was spotted behind the wheel of a van near his home on 29th September 2025 by a police officer who recognised him.

Police pursuit and arrest

Checks confirmed McAllister was disqualified from driving until 2028.

When the officer tried to stop him, McAllister sped away, leading police on a brief 10-second pursuit.

He abandoned the van outside an address in Todhills, colliding with another vehicle, which belonged to him, before running away on foot.

Officers quickly caught up with McAllister and arrested him.

Court outcome and sentence

At Carlisle Magistrates’ Court last week (15th October), McAllister admitted to driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and failing to stop.

He was sentenced to ten months in prison.

McAllister must also pass an extended driving test before he is eligible to regain his licence, once his ban ends in 2028.

Police road safety operations

Cumbria Police said targeting dangerous driver behaviour remains a priority.

Their work includes Operation Colossus, which addresses antisocial behaviour including on the roads, and Operation Spotlight - a national road safety effort running operations throughout the year.
