Warm weather prompts sustainable travel advice for Lake District visitors
Exploring the Lake District using eco-friendly transport
Visitors to the Lake District are being encouraged to consider sustainable travel options during an upcoming spell of sunny weather.
The Lake District National Park Authority (LDNPA) is urging people to explore the area by bus, boat, and train, to alleviate traffic congestion in popular spots.
Emma Moody, the Lead Strategy Adviser for Recreation and Sustainable Development at LDNPA, emphasised the importance of responsible travel.
According to Emma Moody, traffic pressures can lead to delays, particularly during warmer periods.
She encourages visitors to plan their journeys carefully to avoid roadside parking, which can impede local services and emergency vehicles.
Lake District bus fares are capped at £3 per journey, and seasonal shuttle buses are available in Wasdale, Cockermouth to Buttermere, and Ullswater.

The Lake District Strategic Visitor Management Group, which includes LDNPA as a partner, has coordinated temporary car parks to be opened during peak times, depending on local conditions.
Emma Moody said that it is crucial to leave no trace and enjoy the park responsibly, promoting the concept of being "Lake District Kind."
