'Supercomputer for west Cumbria' planned for site near Sellafield
A new energy project described as a “supercomputer for west Cumbria” is being planned for land adjacent to Sellafield.
Cumberland Council says a developer for the plans could be found later on in the year.
The initiative, known as the Pioneer Park project, could use small modular nuclear reactors to power data centres.
According to a report, the project aims to 'diversify the west Cumbrian economy' and 'provide a wide range of job opportunities.'
A nuclear industry advisor says 200 acres will be enough to accommodate the facility.
