Special speedway event in memory of eight-year-old boy to take place
Jay Cartmell died last year
A very special meet is taking place at Workington Speedway today, with a memorial race day taking place for Jay Cartmel.
The 8 year old passed away last year on a hunting trip, but was a keen speedway and football fan.
Barry Collins is from the Workington Comets Supporters Club, who've helped organise today's event.
He says;
"We gave him (Jay) a bike and access to the track and he basically took to it like a duck to water.
"He enjoyed his track days down here and enjoyed watching the Comets as well.
"So many people are coming, including his football team, the Whitehaven Miners.
"We couldn't do enough to get this event on and get everyone onboard".
An investigation into Jay's death in Warcop is ongoing.
