Public consultation begins on the future of the Solway Coast National Landscape
Residents and visitors invited to share their views on draft Management Plan
A public consultation is now underway to shape the future management of the Solway Coast National Landscape.
The consultation, led by Cumberland Council in partnership with the Solway Coast National Landscape Partnership, will run from 2nd November 2026 to 4th January 2027. It offers an opportunity for communities, businesses, and visitors to provide feedback on a draft Management Plan that outlines the conservation and enhancement strategies for the coastal landscape between 2027 and 2032.
The Management Plan identifies distinctive qualities of the Solway Coast such as wildlife habitats, saltmarshes, and cultural heritage, and sets priorities for future preservation and responses to challenges. Cllr Andy Semple, Chair of the partnership, emphasized the landscape's value and the importance of including public views in the planning process.
Cumberland Councillor Elaine Lynch expressed pride in collaborating to protect this significant area, encouraging those invested in its future to review the draft plan. She highlighted the consultation as a chance for residents and visitors alike to influence the priorities going forward.
Participation is encouraged online via the Cumberland Council consultation portal or the official Solway Coast National Landscape website. Paper copies of the draft and survey are available upon request via email.
All feedback collected will be considered in finalising the Management Plan.
