The police in the South Lakes area have issued a warning to be vigilant against scam phone calls after several reports emerged in recent days.

Callers have been pretending to be police officers, falsely claiming that the recipient's bank card has been cloned.

Victims are then asked to withdraw cash, later collected by a courier.

A police spokesperson stressed that authorities and other agencies would never request such actions.

If doubts arise regarding the identity of someone on the phone, it is advisable to hang up and contact the police or your bank from a different phone on 101 for advice.

Unexpected calls should prompt suspicion. It's important to remember that no legitimate agency will ask for your bank account details or PIN number over the phone or request you to send money or personal property via courier or taxi.

If any uncertainties exist, visit your bank or police station in person or use a different telephone to contact a trusted number.

Authorities also urge sharing this advice with family and friends, particularly elderly relatives.
