A man from Carlisle has been jailed after robbing a woman with a walking stick at knifepoint in broad daylight.

25-year-old Reece Holmes has been sentenced to four years and eight months for robbery, possession of cannabis and two counts of possession of a knife blade in a public place.

The court heard how Holmes robbed a woman whilst wearing a balaclava at around 10am on 2nd February.

He'd followed her off a bus they were both on.

Holmes grabbed her bag, which was across her body, and threatened her with a knife.

The victim attempted to hit him with her walking stick, before he pulled the bag strap, causing her to fall to the ground.

The victim suffered lacerations to her head and hand during his attack with the knife, as well as a broken finger.

Holmes cut the bag strap and ran off with the bag, leaving the woman injured on the floor.

He was later arrested on Cranbourne Road and found with a balaclava, a knife, items belonging to the victim and had blood on his hands.
