One man and two women from Cumbria have been sentenced for an aggravated burglary where they stole a puppy armed with a baseball bat.

24-year-old Peter Woolaghan, 32-year-old Naomi Doran and 30-year-old Sophie Kennedy burgled a house in Whitehaven.

They broke into the house through the backdoor and shouted at the victim.

Sophie Kennedy used a bat to threaten the victim before Peter Woolaghan pulled a Cockapoo puppy from its crate and away from its mother.

Naomi Doran then tried to hide the puppy under her t-shirt before they drove off.

The puppy was found at an address on Ennerdale Terrace, Whitehaven, after the trio had been arrested.

All three were found guilty of aggravated burglary.

Woolaghan has been jailed for four years, and both Doran and Kennedy have been sentenced to two years suspended for 18 months.

Investigating the case Detective Constable Alex Chalker said “The defendants committed this offence with the intention of threatening the victim with the baseball bat and even swinging it at the victim.

“No one should feel unsafe in their own homes.

"It is our commitment to ensure those who commit burglary offences are prosecuted."
