Police issue advice after a spate of thefts from takeaways in Carlisle

Police in Carlisle are reminding business owners to be vigilant and follow security advice following reports of thefts from takeaway food shops the area in recent days.

Incidents have been reported in the areas of Warwick Road and Denton Street.

The following advice is provided to assist in deterring thieves from targeting your business and making your property more secure:

• Identify any areas that may be vulnerable to forced entry and make them more secure

• Make sure doors and windows are locked when not in use

• Make sure you have a monitored alarm which is fully operational

• Make sure your CCTV is operational and provides good quality images

• Make sure there is sufficient lighting around the premises

• Try and ensure wheelie bins are stored away as these can be climbed on to gain access

• Do not keep cash on the premises, especially overnight

• Make sure keys are not left on the premises and only designated staff have access
