A man from Jarrow who was stopped on the M6 and found with a block of cocaine worth £80,000 in the car boot has been jailed.

57-year-old Paul Herbertson was found with a block of cocaine, digital scales, and a snap-bag in his wallet containing cocaine during a stop and search.

The cocaine, which weighed more than 1kg, had an estimated street value of £80,000.

Herbertson was arrested and in his police interview told officers: “Basically, I got asked to pick a package up, didn't know what was in it, I didn't look, put it in boot, then got stopped on M6.”

He has been sentenced to three years in prison after previously pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply a Class A drug.
