Over 20 thousand pounds has been raised so far for Oaktree Animal Shelter following a flood on the site on Saturday.

Their Justgiving page reads: "Disaster struck Oak Tree Animals’ Charity when sudden flash floods overwhelmed the site, submerging our kennels and cattery in muddy water. Staff rushed in and acted fast. Thanks to their incredible efforts, every animal was moved to safety—some to dry areas onsite, others taken home by staff for emergency foster care.

"Though all our animals are safe, the damage is devastating. Bedding, food, and vital equipment have been ruined. Repairs to the buildings alone will cost thousands of pounds—and we urgently need to invest in proper flood defences to prevent this from happening again.

"We’re heartbroken, but determined. With your support, we’ll rebuild—and continue to care for every paw that needs us."

As it stands, animals are now being safely housed in foster homes or in staff houses while the damage is cleared up.

Matthew Notter is from the charity, he said: "It's thousands of pounds of damage that we are looking at, but it also affects what we can do as a charity.

"Some of the kennels are out of action, so dogs and cats are not able to come in at this moment. The clean up operation is in full flow to get that going.

"We can't help as many animals as we'd like because of that. We've animals booked in to come into the kennels to rehome and we know the stray kennels are struggling in this area. We've had to delay intakes. It's affecting us massively."
