North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust meets cultural and religious needs, survey shows
High confidence levels in hospital staff reported by patients
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has released the results of the National Inpatient Survey 2025, highlighting positive patient feedback for North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust’s two acute hospitals.
Adults who were inpatients at The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven, and discharged in November 2025, participated in the survey.
A total of 518 individuals completed the survey, a response rate of 44%.
The Trust's findings were consistent with national averages, with no areas falling below average.
North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust stood out with scores 'better than expected' in two specific areas: cultural needs, with 94% of hospital staff acknowledging individual cultural needs, and religious needs, with 93% of staff recognising individual religious requirements.
Additional results showed that 91.9% of patients expressed confidence in the Trust and the nurses treating them, while 89.3% reported confidence in the Trust and the doctors.
Moreover, 91.5% felt they were treated with kindness and compassion, and 91.7% felt they were treated with dignity and respect.
