New digital mental health tool launches in Westmorland and Furness
It's hoped the tool will reduce barriers to accessing mental health support
Starting today (1st April), adults in Westmorland and Furness can access free, anonymous, and confidential mental health support through a new digital platform.
'Qwell' provides round-the-clock access to mental health resources 365 days a year.
It offers sessions with qualified professionals; moderated community support (so users can chat to others with similar experiences); and self-guided resources like articles and interactive tools.
The free platform is designed to offer immediate help when needed, so people don't have to be put on waiting lists.
Katrina Stephens, Director of Public Health for Westmorland and Furness, said “We are delighted to add this accessible support to our preventative health offer. The availability of access to trusted practitioners and evidence based resources will help our residents seek help early, reduce the risk of crises, and build resilience across our communities.”
Councillor Patricia Bell, member for Adult Care and Public Health, says: “Qwell gives our residents something truly vital; support wherever they are and at whatever time of the day it is needed. By offering free, anonymous help every day of the year, it removes barriers that too often stop people from reaching out. No one should face their struggles alone. “
Young people under 18 can access mental health support via the Kooth digital platform, available since 2023, here.
For more information on the Qwell service and to sign up, adults can visit Qwell.io here.
Residents without digital access can seek assistance through the Samaritans by calling 116 123 or the NHS on 111 option 2 for mental health crises.
