Maryport's The Carlton set to open as entertainment venue and office space

The Carlton, a historic building on Senhouse Street in Maryport, is about to become a hub for arts and enterprise, thanks in part to Cumberland Council’s £12 million investment in the town’s regeneration. The venue, previously a cinema, has been refurbished to offer a ground floor performance area and office spaces upstairs.

Funding for this transformation was sourced from Cumberland Council, the central government, and Sellafield Ltd. Maryport Horizons Community Interest Company will manage the venue, which is slated to start opening to the public from September 2026.

Cllr Mark Fryer, Leader of Cumberland Council, expressed enthusiasm about the project's completion. He highlighted the expected positive economic impact on Maryport and Cumberland, emphasising the importance of making town centres attractive for living, working, and visiting.

Sellafield Ltd's contribution to the project aligns with their commitment to community prosperity. Their £400,000 investment is aimed at fostering regeneration and local enterprise while reviving a valued community asset.

Office spaces on the first floor are available for rent as part of this venture. Ranging from 11sqm to 26sqm, the seven offices are unfurnished but come with shared amenities like a communal kitchen and co-working area. The monthly rental fee, beginning at £344, includes service charges, and tenants benefit from a fully accessible layout with lift access throughout.

Catherine Eve, Director of Maryport Horizons, highlighted the potential of these office spaces to address the local demand for quality accommodation and to bolster the town's economy by attracting small businesses.
