Council to remove public access for site security

Westmorland and Furness Council is preparing to place Mansion House on the market and will implement measures to secure the site in the coming days.

Public access to the site's car parks will be removed, with closures coming into effect from Tuesday 5th May 2026.

The decision to close the car parks follows the amendment of a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), which has been in place since November 2025.

This measure is expected to last throughout the marketing and sale period.

The new owner will make future decisions regarding the site's security.

While most of the car park will be included in the sale, a part of the rear car park will remain under council ownership, with options to utilise it to be considered post-sale.

For those seeking alternative parking, nearby Pay and Display Car Parks are available, including Bluebell Lane and Sandgate with 130 spaces each, and Drovers Lane offering 73 spaces.

Further parking information is accessible on the Westmorland and Furness Council website.
