A 37-year-old man from Carlisle has been jailed for eight months after breaking into a city centre business early on Thursday morning.

Ashley Queen, from Dunmallet Rigg in Carlisle, was arrested following a suspected break-in at the O2 store at around 5.20am.

A member of staff alerted the police, reporting damage and potential burglary.

Officers arrived rapidly at the scene and arrested two individuals, Queen and a woman.

Queen faced charges for burglary other than a dwelling, drink driving, and driving while disqualified.

He appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning (Friday), admitting to all three charges.

Detective Sergeant Chris Brennand commented on the case, noting the effectiveness of swift police response.

“Officers were able to react swiftly to the report of the break-in and quickly arrest Queen nearby."

“Despite his protestations in his police interview, Queen admitted the offences at court and has been sentenced to an immediate prison term."

“This case should demonstrate that Cumbria Police is committed to pursuing those people who believe they can target individuals and businesses and get away with it."
