Man sentenced to prison for burglary in Kendal
Sean Devaney jailed following residential burglaries.
Sean Devaney, 64, of Boroughbridge Road, Knaresborough, has been sentenced to four years and six months in prison for a residential burglary in Kendal and a second burglary in West Yorkshire.
Leeds Crown Court handed down the verdict on Monday 5th October.
Between 23rd June and 3rd July 2025, Devaney targeted a home in Kendal while the occupants were away, forcibly opening a key safe to access the property and stealing jewellery valued around £1,500.
The offence was discovered when the homeowners returned from holiday and reported the burglary to police.
Police investigations that included forensic and digital enquiries established Devaney's connection to the crime scene.
While on bail for the Kendal burglary, Devaney committed another burglary in West Yorkshire, which the court also addressed.
Detective Constable Ewan Breeze commented on the case, emphasising the distress burglaries cause to victims: "Burglary can leave victims feeling unsafe in their own home, especially when offenders target properties while residents are away. Devaney went to considerable lengths to commit this offence, travelling a significant distance to target the property.
“Thanks to forensic evidence and detailed enquiries by officers, we were able to identify him and secure this conviction. I hope this sentence provides the victims with a sense of justice."
Operation Themis, Cumbria Constabulary’s initiative, is focused on responding to and addressing burglary crimes.
