Man jailed after police uncover almost £100,000 of cocaine
Williams was stopped on the M6 after swerving onto the hard shoulder
Police in Cumbria confirmed a man has been sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in prison after a stop on the motorway found him in possession of 1Kg of cocaine.
Robert Williams, 34, was jailed on Friday (13 June) at Carlisle Crown Court for possession with intent to supply a Class A drug and possession of criminal property.
Williams was stopped on the M6 after officers in an unmarked vehicle observed his car swerve onto the hard shoulder.
Williams’ car was stopped and searched, and officers located around £18,000 in cash and a block of drugs, later confirmed as cocaine with a potential street value of around £80,000-£100,000.
"committed to disrupt the supply of class A drugs"
A spokesperson from Cumbria Police’s Community and Serious Organised Crime Unit said: “The initial stop was great work from our Roads Policing Unit who acted on their suspicions to uncover the cash and drugs.
“The subsequent investigation has resulted in not only Williams behind bars, but harmful drugs taken off the streets.
“Our officers work all year round to root out these types of crimes and this is just the latest example of criminals facing prosecution in Cumbria.
“We are committed to disrupt the supply of class A drugs, which cause harm and misery in our communities.”
