Man jailed for four years over teenager's death in crash near Barrow

A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to four years in prison following a fatal car crash near Barrow that resulted in the death of a teenager.

Jayden Cammock was sentenced at Preston Crown Court after pleading guilty to causing death by dangerous driving.

The incident occurred last year on the A5087 Coast Road near Priors Lea in Rampside, when Cammock's Audi S4 collided with a Volkswagen UP.

A forensic investigation revealed that both vehicles were travelling north, and Cammock was overtaking several vehicles when he collided with the Volkswagen, which had been turning into a parking area.

Timothy Jolley, 19, who was a passenger in the Volkswagen, died at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

Cammock’s passenger experienced minor injuries.

In addition to his prison term, Cammock received a seven-year driving ban.

Detective Constable Claire Whatman noted, "This tragic case shows how reckless manoeuvres can have devastating consequences. The defendant's inappropriate speed and failure to properly assess the road and traffic conditions ahead greatly reduced his ability to react and avoid the collision."

Timothy Jolley's family expressed their gratitude for the emergency services and all those who assisted at the scene.
