A man who controlled a woman and failed to comply with sex offender requirements has been jailed.

Thomas Davidson, 57, of no fixed address has been jailed for one year and nine months.

Carlisle Crown Court heard how he wouldn't let the woman leave the house on her own.

Even when she had to go to work, he would drop her off and pick her up.

Davidson was also using her name and money to buy and sell cars, which was against his notification requirements.

He was arrested after a report to police and given conditions not to contact the woman.

He continued to send her letters, ring her doorbell and loiter around her property.

Detective Constable Callum Rushton from Cumberland CID said ā€œCoercive and controlling behaviour can be difficult for victims to come forward and talk about.

ā€œIn this case Davidson controlled his victims life, ensuring she never left the house alone or went out with friends.

ā€œI would encourage anyone who has been subject to offences of this nature to come forward so that our officers can investigate. You will be supported throughout our investigation."
