Fire crews are battling a large wildfire at RAF Spadeadam.

Crews from across Cumbria and Northumberland, including specialist wildfire teams, have been sent to the scene, alongside Ministry of Defence fire crews.

The fire is affecting an area of grass and gorse measuring approximately 500 metres by 1,500 metres.

Emergency services say resources may be tied up at the scene for some time as crews work to bring the fire under control.

The incident is taking place at RAF Spadeadam, a Ministry of Defence site near the Cumbria and Northumberland border.

Specialist wildfire teams are among those involved in the response, due to the scale and nature of the blaze.

No further details have yet been released about the cause of the fire or whether any buildings are affected.

People in the area are being advised to avoid the scene where possible to allow emergency crews to carry out their work safely.

More updates are expected as the incident develops.
