Lake District visitors urged to use sustainable transport during sunny spell
Travel advice as warm weather expected across UK
Last updated 24th Jun 2026
As the UK, including the Lake District, braces for a warm weather spell starting Saturday, 20th June, people are encouraged to use eco-friendly transport methods when visiting the National Park.
Emma Moody from the Lake District National Park Authority emphasises the importance of exploring the area sustainably to avoid traffic pressures in popular spots.
Bus, boat, and train options are recommended, while car travellers should plan ahead and avoid roadside parking to prevent blocked roads affecting local transport and emergency services.
Lake District bus fares are set at £3 per journey, providing an affordable travel option.
Seasonal shuttle buses are operating in several areas, including Wasdale and Ullswater.
For detailed travel planning, visitors can search ‘plan your visit’ on www.lakedistrict.gov.uk .
Additional pop-up car parks, managed by the Lake District Strategic Visitor Management Group, are operational at peak times, with locations to be checked locally due to weather and traffic conditions.
Payment at these car parks is made via the RingGo app.
Emma Moody also reminded visitors to be considerate: “Please do remember to leave no trace and enjoy your National Park responsibly by being Lake District Kind.”
