A Carlisle grounds worker has been fined for punching to the ground a man who hit his head as he fell.

Kane Fraser, now aged 21, found himself back at the city’s magistrates’ court following an incident at The Reiver, Holmrook Road, Carlisle, on the evening of 26th April this year.

A prosecutor told Carlisle Magistrates’ Court that the men had engaged in a fight in the car park. They were seen to have delivered multiple “swings” in each other’s direction.

Fraser then punched the other man to the floor, causing him to hit his head.

Other people had tried to intervene during the incident.

Fraser, of Yewdale Road, made no comment when interviewed by police but, when appearing in front of a district judge today (tues), he admitted a charge of threatening behaviour.

In April last year, Fraser had appeared in court and was made the subject of a 12-month community order. Fraser was said during that previous incident to have adopted a “boxer’s stance” and goaded a much larger man on Botchergate during a night out.

Defence lawyer Kate Hunter gave some mitigation in respect of the 2026 offence, which occurred four days after the community order had expired. Fraser had described going outside the pub because a female had been assaulted. “He accepts it is over and beyond what he should have done,” said Miss Hunter of Fraser’s reaction outside the pub.

Fraser, a grounds worker, was fined £200 and ordered to pay court costs.

“Your actions were unjustified, whatever had taken place,” said district judge Philip Holden, who noted he had no detail of any injuries sustained by the other man. “You caused (the man) to go to ground and bang his head. It could have been very much worse for him.”
